The American Association of University Women (AAUW) advances equity for women and girls.
So, the Lombard Area Branch of AAUW “Return to Learning” scholarship has the aim to help an undergraduate or master’s degree, or certification program students, especially females.

The selection criteria will be based on the following:
- Return to Learning
- Strong academics
- Financial need
- STEM field of study (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math)
- Employment and activities
- Current letter of recommendation from one professional contact
- Acceptance at a college or university
The amount of the award is determined annually due to the fact that it depends on the success of our Annual Used Book Sale, but it is usually around $2500.
The scholarship will be awarded in May.
Who's eligible?
So as to be eligible for this award, students must reside in Lombard, Villa Park, Oakbrook Terrace, Wheaton, Addison, Glendale Heights or Glen Ellyn, Illinois and are continuing college after a significant interruption.
Priority will be given to women who demonstrate strong academic achievements, financial need, and an interest in a STEM field of study or are pursuing a certification program, undergraduate or graduate degree, not including a doctoral program.
How to Apply
Candidates who believe they are eligible for this award are highly encouraged to apply but the need to make sure they have included each of the following required documentation before submitting your application by April 1st when the application process finishes.
The application form completed and signed together with one typed letter of reference from a professional source detailing your qualifications and character.
Those can be faculty members, employers, colleagues, minister or other associates.
Then, you need to provide college transcripts as well.
There are two ways of filling out the application form.
You can fill it out online and then print it out or print out the application and fill it out manually.
The application package should be mailed to the Scholarship Chair address listed at the end of the application.
