Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship provides curatorial training.

The fellow has to devote his or her time to a specific Met project and will get the opportunity to undertake an independent project in consultation with his or her supervising curator.

The Scholarship is provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Fund for promising young people who are doing research projects related to the Museum’s collection.

The Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship is there to support the highest education.

The fellowships are two years in length and recipient will receive an annual salary of $54,000, plus research and travel expenses up to a maximum of $6,000 and fringe benefits.

Who's eligible?

The Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow can be a full-time exempt employee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

So as to be eligible for this award, the candidate must hold a doctoral degree in art history or archaeology and the degree must have been conferred within five years from the start date of the fellowship

The online application includes submission of the required documents as Microsoft Word or PDF files and those are the following:

  • Cover letter addressing your interest in the fellowship position
  • Full curriculum vitae of education, professional experience, honors, awards, and publications
  • A statement related to the areas of research and their relationship to the Museum’s collection and activities.
  • Copy of a published paper or recent writing sample.

Plus, you will have to provide the contact information for three recommenders and they cannot be current Metropolitan Museum of Art staff.

These people will automatically be emailed instructions for uploading their letters online.

This fellowship is offered every other year.

Make sure you submit the application before the deadline on the first Friday in November.

The finalists will be called for an interview by the last Friday in February.
