The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) believes that design impacts lives and what they are trying to achieve through their scholarships and grants is to promote the value of interior design while at the same time positively changing people’s lives.
One more scholarship offered by ASID Foundation is the Legacy Scholarship for Undergraduates.
The award that the winner will get is $4,000 and the number of winners is to be determined based on the quality of applicants.

The scholarship will be awarded to the most deserving candidates based on their academic accomplishments, creative achievements, and personal statement.
What the selection committee will take into consideration are the applicant’s academic record, presentation skills, design and planning competency, and conceptual creativity.
Who's eligible?
The eligibility requirements for the Legacy Scholarship are that all students have to be in their junior or senior year of undergraduate study and enrolled in at least a three-year accredited program of interior design.
The eligible applicant must attend a university or a four-year college and be a US citizen.
He/she must not be attending high school currently, and the award is available to both full-time and part-time students.
You are suggested not to waste your time applying if you are ineligible.
How to Apply
Once you determine your eligibility, you are supposed to meet the Application Requirements which are the following:
- Design portfolio featuring 8-12 examples of work which demonstrates design solutions that positively impact occupant’s well-being.
- Portfolio statement which should not be longer than 500 words
- Personal statement
- Transcript
- Letter of Recommendation
- Biographical statement
- Headshot
The award is usually given to a creatively outstanding student which is demonstrated through their portfolio, so make sure you have included the best of the best examples of works.
The possible examples of work might include lighting plan, furniture or cabinetry detail, furniture layout, and perspective rendering, followed with the Portfolio description of a maximum of 500 words.
The application period starts in February and ends in April, so you are supposed to submit all the material prior to the deadline on April 18th.
If your application documentation does not arrive on time, you will not be taken into consideration for the award, even though you meet the eligibility requirements.
