The existence of this fund is possible thanks to their donors who help the organization by giving more than $2 million every year.
That is how the United Methodist students will be able to get the best education in one of the UM-related schools that can be found all over the country.

The possible amount of money given as an award is determined every year depending on the funds.
Awards are renewable, meaning that you can apply for them even though you have already got one in the previous year, but not more than that.
This is a scholarship designed for military people and their children who serve both God and the country.
Who's eligible?
So as to be eligible and get the award, a person must fulfill certain requirements such as:
Enrollment at an accredited theological seminary and attending of either middle or senior year
Has to be part of the Chaplain Candidate Program or serve in one of the United States armed forces.
It is worth mentioning that students in their senior year who has a plan to serve in the United States Air Force will have advantage, but that does not mean that applicants preparing for chaplaincy will not be considered.
How to Apply
The application process ends on July 1, 2024 and will be organized next year as well.
What you need to do so as to apply for this scholarship is to enter the official website, find the Powell Scholarship Application there and fill it out.
Furthermore, you will be required to provide:
- A letter describing your history and an explanation why you have chosen military chaplaincy as a career
- A recent photography
- your undergraduate and graduate transcripts
- A financial statement
- A report on your ministry in the Chaplain Candidate program
