The Charles Shelton Foundation, Inc. awards scholarships to African-American students who are pursuing a degree in veterinarian medicine or veterinarian technology.
Full Description
The Charles Shelton Foundation offers two non-renewable $2,000 awards each year.
The award will not be given before the scholarship recipients have enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education and submitted proof of enrollment to the sponsor.
Only then the money will be awarded in the form of a check to the institution attended by the scholarship recipient.
The deadline for submitting the application with all the required documentation is April 15th.
Who's eligible?
In order to be eligible for this scholarship, certain eligibility requirements have to be fulfilled.
- The applicant has to have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- He/she has to provide an official copy of the transcript in a sealed envelope
- He/she has to be an African-American graduating HS senior, current college student or returning college student and a legal U.S. resident.
- The applicant has to be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
How to Apply
If you find yourself eligible, besides completing the Veterinary Scholarship Form, there are other requirements necessary to be done in order to apply for it.
You are supposed to submit two professional references from Professors that speak directly to your experience in Veterinary Medicine or Technology and one of the letters should be from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professor.
You will have to send a proof of full-time enrollment in a college or university and write an essay .
When the essay is in question there are certain High School Requirements, that is:
The essay has to be 500-750 words long and you should answer the following question:
- What’s your opinion on administering treatment in order to record a reaction with the discomfort animals experience which is necessary to advance medical science?
The Post-Secondary Essay Requirements are that it should be at least 1500 word long answering the following question:
- What’s your opinion on administering treatment in order to record a reaction with the discomfort animals experience which is necessary to advance medical science?
You should also provide a resume which will include your achievements, honors, community service and school involvement.
