The Cap Lathrop Endowment Scholarship Fund has been awarding amazing awards since 1997.
It was established in memory of Captain “Cap” Lathrop who was a pioneer in Alaska’s telecommunications and broadcast industry.
The CIRI Foundation, which is the provider of this scholarship, was established in 1982 by Cook Inlet Region, Inc. with the aim to encourage the educational and career developments of the Region’s Alaska Natives.
They are aware of the fact that education is extremely important and that expenses related to it are sometimes hard to cover.

The number of awards and their amount is determined each year, and it is usually around $6000.
If you happen to be the lucky recipient, you should have in mind that this award can be used for educational expenses including tuition, student registration fees, course-required book/supplies, and on-campus house and meal plans.
There is a chance that some amount is used for personal expenses, but only if all the above-mentioned costs are already covered.
Who's eligible?
When the eligibility is in question, you are probably wondering what the requirements are for the Cap Lathrop Scholarship.
Actually, people who are eligible and qualified are Alaska Natives with preference given to Native enrollees/descendants of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. and who are majoring in broadcast, telecommunications, business, engineering, journalism, and other media-related fields.
The general requirements are that the applicant must have a high school diploma or GED, must be attending an accredited institution and have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average or higher.
People who do not meet these requirements are suggested not to apply as their applications will not be taken into consideration.
How to Apply
The CIRI Foundation (TCF) offers the scholarship to full-time and part-time degree-seeking students, and TCF’s scholarship applications are electronic and the only way of submitting them is via their online system.
What you need to do is to create a user account to apply for scholarships online and it has to be approved, so that you can use it.
Applications must be received before the deadline to be considered and the deadline is June 1st.
