The main purpose of the Emily M. Hewitt & Stephen Stocking Memorial Scholarships is to provide two awards of $2,500 to a promising California student, who has shown an educational and career commitment to the study of the environment.
This scholarship is available thanks to a Fund created by the Hewitt family to honor Emily M. Hewitt who was a California artist, author, teacher and fought for the preservation of agricultural lands.
Stephen K. Stocking was also a teacher, an author and a docent at Calaveras Big Trees State Park

If you happen to be the lucky recipient, you will be notified by mail sometime in mid-May and the award will be given at the CBTA Annual Meeting and Picnic in June.
Who's eligible?
Those people who are interested in this scholarship would probably like to know what the eligibility requirements are.
Eligible people are all students or graduate students enrolled full-time in an accredited California post-secondary educational institution whose educational career goals demonstrate an interest in communicating and interpreting nature’s wonder.
The eligible students must be pursuing degrees in environmental protection, forestry, wildlife, and fisheries biology, parks and recreation, park management, environmental law and public policy, environmental art, and California history.
The two most important factors that will affect the committee decision are the applicant’s dedication ideals and financial need.
How to Apply
Those who have determined their eligibility are highly encouraged to apply and the application procedure is the following.
They are supposed to submit a completed application which should include
Statement of personal and career goals which should be 1 to 2 pages in length.
Resume and portfolio, if applicable.
Transcripts of all college work completed to date- both official and unofficial are accepted

The completed applications can be submitted either by mail or email and the email address which you are supposed to send complete applications to is cbta@bigtrees org.
If you plan to send applications via mail the address is the following: CBTA – Scholarship P.O. Box 1196, Arnold, CA 95223.
The great thing to know is that by completing only one application, you will be considered for both scholarships.
The deadline for the application submission April 15th.
