The Gamma Mu Foundation was established as an organization which will help the rural areas of the United States.
Its aim is to support to members of the LGBT community who are eager to achieve higher education, but cannot do it due to financial needs and lacks.
The main goal is the acceptance, and pride in the LGBT community, their equality and advancement in every field of life.
Scholarships which are awarded can be used for paying the tuition, books and educational costs of those students enrolled in an accredited college, university, vocational or professional school in the United States.
The financial aid cannot be used for any other purpose.
Full Description
The award of the scholarship ranges between $1,000 and $2,500.
This can be used for under- or post-graduate studies or in the vocational program and the award is not given directly to a recipient, but is provided to the particular institution and can be used during one year, meaning that the scholarship is not renewable.
Who's eligible?
Scholarships are awarded only to those who have financial difficulties and the desire for additional education.
The applicant’s requirements are:
- to be a gay man under 35 years of age,
- to have completed high school by June of the current year
- to be admitted to an accredited college, university, or vocational institution
- and be a U.S. citizen.
People who will have preference are those students who are living in, have come from, or plan to attend school in a rural area, who have overcome issues of discrimination, who demonstrate leadership qualities within the LGBTQ communities and who demonstrate a strong academic performance.
How to Apply
If you think that the above mentioned key factors make you eligible for this scholarship, you should submit an application form before March 31 and you will receive a confirmation of application receipt via email.
The applications involves answering all questions and providing the required data.
Who will be granted depends on numerous factors, among which are:
- Financial Need
- Community involvement
- Overcoming discrimination
- Educational goals
- Involvement in the LGBTQ community
The recipients will be chosen by the Gamma Mu Foundation Board of Directors.
