The Grand Rapids Trans Foundation Academic Scholarship is founded so as to provide financial help to transgender students with education-related expenses.
They need to be pursuing a degree or certificate from an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational program with a satellite campus or permanent presence in Kent County, MI.

Future applicants must have in mind that the award criteria are based on a personal essay, financial need, and academic goals.
The foundation is offering $2500 award to even six most deserving applicants.

Who's eligible?
This award is open to people of any age who identify as transgender, but who demonstrate financial need which causes them to struggle with educational expenses and does not allow them to reach higher educational goals.
The fact people appreciate is that there is no GPA requirement.
Students of color and students with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
If you do not meet the above-mentioned requirements, you should not waste your time applying, as your application will be rejected.
The scholarship committee will select the candidates who are the most deserving and who show the great need for financial aid.
How to Apply
The scholarship application process opens on January 1st.

Applicants must provide the following documentation:
- the completed application form
- one 500 words long essay in which you will describe any individual circumstances that present difficulties in pursuing your goals and you should speak about the barriers you have experienced related to your trans identity
- the financial release form to their first-choice academic institution.
The essay needs to be emailed in .doc format with a completed application to applications@grtransfoundation.org.
Alternatively, printed versions may be mailed to PO Box 2674, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
All applications must be completed for consideration and received by June 7th, when the application process finishes.
The scholarship winner will be announced on June 30th and will be notified by e-mail.
