The Kearns Louis-Jean Memorial Scholarship is aimed at students of color within Boston, and neighboring cities/town, entering their first year of college, and pursuing a degree within STEM and who have financial difficulties which limit them in fulfilling higher education goals.

The Kearns Louis Jean scholarship consists of two $1,000 scholarships which will be divided into two payments, one each semester.
In order to be able to get the second half of the scholarship, the recipient has to maintain good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Who's eligible?
So as to be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant has to meet criteria.
He/she must be graduating high school, and accepted to a four year college/university undergraduate program, with a declared major in STEM.
He/she must be able to prove financial need and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Furthermore, the applicant has to reside in one of the following areas: Randolph, Boston (Brighton, Charlestown, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Milton, South Boston, Roslindale, Roxbury, and West Roxbury).
How to Apply
When it comes to the application process, the official website offers a link to the application form that has to be completed with some personal information related to education and financial assets.
You will be asked to write a 500 word essay with certain question to answer.
- You should discuss the following questions in essay format.
- From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your education?
- Share with us what interested you most about STEM, and what you hope to achieve with your STEM degree.
- Provide current activities, programs, fairs, organizations and/or groups that you have been involved in that support your interest in STEM.
The essay has to be uploaded and attached to the application form.
The applicant would need to attach unofficial transcripts in .pdf form.
There is a chance of mailing your transcripts to KLJ Way at KLJ Way P.O. Box 620, Randolph, MA 02368.
The application deadline for the Kearns Louis-Jean scholarship is June 30th and all the applications received after that date will not be taken into consideration.
