The Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship for Racial Ethnic Minority Students is designed to financially support people who are undergraduate students of religion, journalism, or communications.
The scholarship was named after Leonard M. Perryman who was a journalist for The United Methodist Church for nearly 30 years.
One scholarship will be awarded to the best overall candidate.
Full Description
The Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship for Racial Ethnic Minority Students award is $2500 which will make students struggle less with educational expenses.
This scholarship is not renewable and the separate application is required for it.
The scholarship is restricted by race for Black, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander or American Indian/Alaska Native students.
Who's eligible?
There are certain criteria that determine who should apply for this award and according to which the selection will be made.
Applicants must be a United Methodist ethnic minority student.
Then, he/she has to be enrolled at the junior or senior level in the journalism or communications department of an accredited college or university in the United States.
Five criteria will be taken into consideration when determining the most deserving candidate.
Those are:
- Christian commitment and involvement in the life of the United Methodist Church
- The academic achievement which will be determined according to transcripts, grade point averages and the required letters of reference
- Journalistic experience and journalistic talent
- Applicant’s plans and goals for the future
- Potential professional ability as a religion journalist
