Minority Scholarship

The Minority Scholarship is available thanks to the generosity of Brown and Caldwell organization, which values diversity in the workplace.

That is the reason why they keep on supporting organizations like the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers and offer a $5,000 Minority Scholarship to support students who identify as minorities and who show a great interest in pursuing a career in the environmental profession.

Full Description

Scholarship money can be used for tuition and other educational expenses only.

Please, make sure you follow the application procedure timeline and submit all the documents prior to the deadline on April 15th.

Late and incomplete applications will be rejected, even though the applicant meets all the eligibility requirements.

Furthermore, if you find yourself ineligible, you are suggested not to apply at all.

Usually, there is one lucky recipient of a $5000 award each year, but it is prone to change, so you are suggested to stay updated when this information is in question.

Who's eligible?

Here are the criteria for the application set by the scholarship committee:

So as to be eligible, the applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.

He/she must be a full-time student enrolled in his/her Junior, Senior year or graduate program at an accredited college/university and majoring in civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering or one of the environmental sciences.

His/her educational achievements have to be great, proven by the cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Last, but not least, the applicant must identify himself/herself as a member of a minority group – African American, Hispanic, Asian or Pacific American or Alaska Native.

How to Apply

Once the eligibility is determined, you are supposed to get familiar with the application requirements as well and see which required documents all candidates must submit with a completed application.

Those are:

  • A resume.
  • An essay of 250 words minimum in which you will be speaking about a personal experience that influenced your decision to focus on environmental studies.
  • Two written recommendations, one of which must be from a university official (e.g. advisor, professor).
  • An official transcript of your academic record.
