National Press Club Diversity Scholarship for Studies in Journalism has the aim to encourage further diversity in journalism and includes a $2000 award.

It was created so as to honor the late Ellen Masin Persina who was a dedicated club member and this scholarship is funded by her friends and family and by money raised through National Press Club activities.

Full Description

The National Press Club organization wants to gather all promising future journalists who will bring diversity to American journalism by offering a scholarship that is renewable for up to 3 years.

Who's eligible?

Only those eligible candidates should submit the application of the National Press Club scholarship.

The eligible candidate must be a high school senior who is preparing to enter college and intend to become a journalist.

He/she has to show his/her determination to bring diversity to U.S. journalism.

The competition is open to people who have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

How to Apply

The applicant who has determined his/her eligibility is encouraged to apply by submitting no more than five work samples demonstrating his/her interest in journalism through work on a high school newspaper or other media.

Furthermore, he/she has to provide a 500-word essay explaining his/her plans to add diversity to US journalism.

Additional documentation includes three letters of recommendation from people who are not members of the applicant’s family and a copy of his/her high school transcript.

This is not all, as you will need to provide a completed signed copy of the Financial Aid Form and a letter of acceptance from the college/university.

Last but not least, applicants have to write a brief description of how they have pursued journalism in high school.
