NDS Merton Sowerby Junior Merit Scholarship is named in honor of Merton Sowerby.
Merton was a long time Guernsey classifier, herdsman and National Dairy Shrine Pioneer and member of the National Dairy Hall of Fame.

The National Dairy Shrine Junior Merit Scholarship’s aim is to encourage qualified and deserving undergraduate students to pursue careers in the dairy industry or related occupations, as they are considered future leaders in this industry.
The first award is $1500 scholarship, while there are three more $1000 scholarships.
Depending on the number and quality of applications, there can be even more award given.
The amount will be paid after the winners are recognized at the National Dairy Shrine Awards Banquet.
Who's eligible?
The NDS Merton Sowerby Junior Merit scholarship designed to any undergraduate student currently enrolled in their junior year in a four year college, but he/she needs to possess a great interest in the dairy industry and pursuing a degree in the following fields:
Dairy Production, Dairy or Agricultural Economics, Communication or Accounting, Dairy Research Scientist, Dairy Genetics, Dairy Equipment, Dairy Feed or Pharmaceutical Marketing or Sales, Dairy Consultant, Dairy Extension, Education, or University Dairy Professor.
Besides that, the eligible applicant must have at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale, and the previous recipients are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply
If you meet the eligibility criteria and you have decided to apply for this amazing award, you will be asked to first download the application form which can be found on the official website of the scholarship provider and that is www.dairyshrine.org.
That form should be filled out with your personal and educational data, but you will also be asked to write a 750 words essay in which you should describe your specific activities or experiences related to your planned future in the dairy industry.
Furthermore, two letters of recommendation should be e-mailed to info@dailyshrine.org together with the application form, as well as official transcripts.
The applications are accepted from March 1 until April 15, so it is important to submit it before the deadline.
After the submission of the application form, you will get the confirmation email showing that your application is accepted.
