The Nellie Martin Carman Scholarship is available to graduating seniors and it can be used for one academic or school year in any university or college in the State of Washington.
The total amount awarded is determined each year on an individual basis by the Carman Scholarship Committee, but it does not exceed $2,000.
The scholarship may be renewed from year to year until completion of a four-year course of study if the recipient maintains a 3.0 average.
Full Description
The Committee will determine the most deserving candidate who meets the requirements of Mrs. Carman’s Trust by inspection of the written credentials and by personal interview.
Who's eligible?
The scholarship committee has determined certain eligibility criteria that have to be met so that your application is accepted.
A Carman Scholarship applicant has to be a graduate of a public high school in King, Snohomish or Pierce County and an American citizen.
He/she has to be enrolled in a college or university in the state of Washington on a full-time basis.
How to Apply
Being that too many applicants are submitting their application forms, the committee determined a method of selection as well.
This means that each public high school in King, Snohomish and Pierce County can nominate one candidate from the senior class and the application blanks are sent to the high schools in January of each year.
The application procedure includes the submission of pages 1-6 of the application, a copy of the applicant’s Student Aid Report or a copy of the most recent IRS Income Tax Return 1040 from the person claiming applicant as a dependent.
You will need to attach one letter of recommendation, a small photograph, a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate, passport or naturalization certificate, an official grade transcript and a copy of the applicant’s SAT/ACT test scores.
Once all these documents are gathered you should submit them and that has to be done before the deadline on March 1st.
The application packages should be mailed to the Secretary of the Nellie Martin Carman Scholarship Committee at the following address:
P.O. Box 60052
Shoreline, Washington 98160-0052.
