The Pearl Berlin Scholarship honors Berlin, a person who has worked as a fearless advocate for LGBTQ rights, marriage equality, and education.
The scholarship’s aim is to support continuing education for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied students who want to reach higher education goals, but have financial difficulties.
Full Description
The Pearl Berlin Scholarship is awarded in amounts up to $3,000. which is determined by the scholarship committee and based on the quality and quantity of applicants.
The scholarship can only be used for tuition, fees, on-campus housing or books at an accredited institution of higher education.
Awards will be distributed to the recipient’s school upon receipt of a letter of acceptance and verification of enrollment.
Who's eligible?
You need to be an eligible applicant so as to be accepted as a possible candidate for this scholarship.
The eligibility criteria are the following:
The applicant must be a resident of Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham, Randolph or Alamance County, North Carolina.
He/she must be a graduating high school senior entering an accredited institution of higher education in the fall.
Furthermore, he/she must be a self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or straight ally.
Lastly, the applicant must have demonstrated service, or a desire to serve, the LGBTQ community.
If you meet all these requirements, you are highly encouraged to apply for the award.
How to Apply
The application process is simple and it starts on November 1st.
Besides the application submission, you are required to send supporting documents via email to info@ggfnc.org.
Those documents are a copy of your high school or GED transcript and one letter of reference from a non-family member, as well as a signed and completed release form which is included in the application packet.
You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been received.
Make sure you submit all the required documentation prior to March 1st, 2019, when the process finishes.
The Award Notification Date is March 15th, when the applicants will be informed via e-mail.
Recipients may be asked to attend the Guilford Green Foundation Gala on March 23rd to accept the scholarship.
