The scholarship amount is $15,000 and it is awarded to up to three candidates.
Who's eligible?
So as to be accepted as an eligible candidate for this scholarship, you need to meet certain eligibility requirements set by the scholarship committee.
Firstly, you need to be a current undergraduate student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in the upcoming academic school year OR undergraduate senior accepted into a master’s program OR current master’s student
Then, you need to be planning to enroll on a full-time basis in a California, public four-year college/university
You should know that the preference would be given to students enrolling in a school in the greater Bay Area which includes Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Solano, Sonoma.
You need to have a declared major in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM), being that the preference given to computer science and engineering (CISE) and engineering majors.
The academic achievement is also important, so you need to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
How to Apply
The application process is not too complicated, but there are certain required application documents which eligible candidate must provide.
Firstly, you need to submit the Apply SVCF application form.
Then, the Samsung@First Scholars Program requirements are to submit your 500-850 word personal statement in which you will be discussing your intended major and career goals, commenting on your personal characteristics, the educational and extracurricular activities and describing why you believe you are a good candidate for this scholarship.
Also, the Financial Need Documentation in the PDF format is important to be provided.
Evidence of financial need must be submitted to Apply SVCF, that it U.S. citizens and legal U.S. residents should Upload a copy of completed FAFSA and Student Aid Report (SAR).
You will need to submit two letters of recommendation (PDF) from a STEM-related college professor on school letterhead and a teacher/professor or academic advisor OR volunteer or work supervisor and community leader,
The letters of recommendation can be uploaded to your Apply SVCF application by you or your recommenders can submit the letters themselves.
Last but not least, Official Transcripts of Grades should also be provided, either by uploading the PDF versions of your official transcripts or to mail hard copy original to the address:
